“You were born an original, don’t die a copy”- John Mason
I never seem to fit. I feel like an odd-shaped puzzle piece looking for the puzzle where I belong. I pride myself in being different from everyone else. But I’ve also feel lonely, misunderstood and like an outsider. At times that feeling drove me to try to be like others. Show interest in things that honestly, I had no interest in just to find some common ground. Walk the well-worn paths others take. Inevitably, I wander off those paths, machete in hand, traipsing through uncharted territory.
My one solace, I fit with God. He made me the odd shape I am. I always fit with God. I always have a home with God. I’m not too odd for him. I’m not to off-key for him. I’m not to chatty for him. God always welcomes me and engages in making me more and more like him & truer to who he made me to be.
Each one of us has our own path to follow to get where God is taking us. As my wife would say “don’t judge my journey.” There are Biblical paths we all take. But the journey to our divine destination will not look like the same as others.
Embrace your unique path. Don’t compare. For out of your experiences will come a song, a song that you alone write and you alone sing.
When your are in a cover band, you look the part, you sound the part but at the end of the day you are not. While you enjoy the applause, you are neglecting the original song God put in you to create & sing. We all have a song in us from a young age but over time we “trade in our birthright’ to start singing other people’s songs.
Don’t curse the unique path you have to travel, expect greatness out of it. You will never discover the unique song you are to sing while you are busy singing other people’s songs.
“The masses of men live lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”- Henry David Thoreau
Embrace the truth that God fathers us and trains us to sing our true song. There is nothing more refreshing than hearing a unique song from a unique life.
Here’s to the those that have fought the good fight of Faith! Here’s to those who took the road less traveled and died with a smile on their face knowing they “ran the race marked out for them. Here’s to those whose life sang out a new song and the world was better for it!
